Commercial Hallway Retrofit Case Study

Oregon Office Building

An office building located in Oregon state modernized its entire hallway lighting system by partnering with an OEM to integrate energy-efficient fixtures equipped with wireless network controls powered by MeshConnect technology.

 Problem

The building's hallways featured a cluttered mix of outdated T12, T8, and PL lamp downlights. Tenants experienced persistent issues with inconsistent light levels and people constantly shutting off the lights using wall switches located at each end of the hallway. This repeatedly left tenants with units in the middle of the hall plunged into darkness when entering the common space. Furthermore, midway through the project, the building owner decided they wanted to add motion sensors, but wanted to avoid the well-known "checkerboarding" effect that typically happens when individual hardwired sensors independently trigger lights as someone passes through a space.

Solution

Traditional methods of wiring every hallway fixture together in series are notoriously labor-intensive and inflexible. To solve this, MeshConnect collaborated with our strategic OEM partner to provide control-ready LED retrofit kits embedded with our modular wireless network controls, allowing the installation team to add smart capabilities on the fly.

Deploying our plug-and-play wireless solution completely eliminated complex series-wiring labor while providing granular smartphone-based grouping and motion sensing. This enabled precise fine-tuning to meet tenant specifications, eliminating accidental shut-offs and preventing the unsightly "checkerboarding" effect by smoothly coordinating fixture zones across the entire hallway.
